How scientific expertise, integrated pest management, and ongoing technician education help us deliver better pest management for the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. At Thomas Pest Services, effective pest management starts with understanding the pest. Why is it there? How did it get inside? And what can be done to address the problem at its source? These questions are central to the work of Danielle Restuccia, our new Staff Entomologist and Board Certified Entomologist. With advanced degrees in entomology and more than six years of professional pest management experience, Danielle brings specialized scientific knowledge to our growing team. Her role will help strengthen our technical expertise, support our technicians in the field, and build on our commitment to ongoing education and thoughtful, science-based pest management.Because protecting homes and businesses takes more than treating the pest you see. It takes understanding what’s happening behind the scenes.
The science behind effective pest management
Homeowners across New York’s Capital Region and Hudson Valley know that pest activity can change with the seasons. As temperatures drop in fall, mice, spiders, stink bugs, and other occasional invaders may begin looking for food, warmth, and shelter indoors.Understanding why these pests enter a home is an important part of developing an effective management plan.Different pests have different behaviors, nesting preferences, food sources, and entry points. Identifying the pest is only the beginning. Knowing what attracts it, how it gains access, and what conditions allow it to thrive can help determine the most appropriate next steps.“There’s a science behind pest control,” Danielle explains. “Understanding the biology and behavior of an insect or other pest helps us determine how it got into a home, what attracted it there and, most importantly, what we can do to keep it from coming back.”That perspective aligns with our approach to integrated pest management (IPM), which considers pest identification, monitoring, sanitation, exclusion, and appropriate treatment methods to address pest problems as effectively as possible. Our goal is to look beyond the immediate issue and understand the factors contributing to it.
Danielle brings a strong combination of academic traiing and professional pest management experience to Thomas Pest Services. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in entomology from Texas A&M University. In June 2022, she earned her Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) credential in Urban and Industrial Entomology. Before joining Thomas, Danielle served as Division Technical Services Manager for the Northeast Division of Orkin Pest Control. Her work included technician training, regulatory compliance, troubleshooting complex infestations, and developing customized integrated pest management plans. Her scientific background extends beyond pest management operations. At Texas A&M, she worked as a graduate teaching assistant in advanced ecology and a scientific imaging specialist in the university’s Department of Entomology. Her work included documenting specimens and creating taxonomic images for newly described species. This combination of scientific knowledge, technical problem-solving, and field experience will support Danielle’s work with our team.
While customers may not see the science behind every service visit, it plays an important role in how pest problems are evaluated and addressed. As Staff Entomologist, Danielle will serve as a technical resource for our technicians, helping them navigate challenging pest situations and make informed decisions in the field. Her responsibilities will include evaluating treatment methods and product usage, updating standard operating procedures, and identifying opportunities to reduce callbacks by addressing pest problems at their source. She will also help our team continue refining its approach to integrated pest management, with an emphasis on understanding pest biology, evaluating contributing conditions, and selecting appropriate management strategies. “Danielle brings a level of scientific knowledge that will make our entire team better,” says Bill Clark, president and co-owner of Thomas Pest Services. “Our technicians encounter different situations every day, and having someone who can dig into the biology behind what they’re seeing helps us make better decisions for our customers.” For our customers, this investment reflects our continued commitment to knowledgeable technicians, thoughtful recommendations, and solutions tailored to the pest problem at hand.

Investing in the next generation of pest professional
Scientific knowledge is most valuable when it can be shared. One of Danielle’s key responsibilities will be developing a Thomas Pest Services-specific training course designed to align with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation requirements for pesticide apprentices. The course will help establish a foundation in pesticide safety, regulatory compliance, integrated pest management, and other essential principles for new technicians entering the field. Ongoing training helps our team build confidence, develop technical skills, and approach pest challenges consistently. By incorporating specialized expertise into our training and operating procedures, we’re working to make that knowledge part of how we serve customers every day. As Thomas Pest Services continues to grow, investing in our people and processes is an important part of maintaining the service standards our customers expect.
A growing field with opportunities for women
Danielle’s appointment also adds to the representation of women in pest management. She joins four other women currently working as pest control technicians at Thomas Pest Services. Her career combines a passion for biological science with a desire to help protect communities and give families peace of mind. We’re proud to welcome her expertise and perspective to our team.
