At Thomas Pest Services, we are grateful for our place at the heart of the Capital Region community, which has fostered our growth and success. Our company has its roots here, and every member of our team works to make our region a better place to live.
One way we express our appreciation is by giving back to our community. We support several local philanthropic organizations that are meaningful to us. We work to involve our team and our customers in these efforts.
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that started in 2012 with a simple premise: designate one day that encourages people to do good. “Good” might be donating to a cause we care about, volunteering for organizations that matter, or something as straightforward as helping a neighbor or sharing a smile with a stranger. Each act of generosity works together to build a better world for everyone.
Today, Giving Tuesday has become a year-round global movement supported by hundreds of millions of people. It strives to inspire everyone to be generous and celebrate generosity.
At GivingTuesday.org, you will find ideas for getting involved, stories about others participating, and more. This year, GivingTuesday is December 3. Post your generous acts on social media using the hashtag #GivingTuesday.
Among the many worthy organizations we support is Capital Region Toys for Tots, sponsored by the US Marine Corps Reserve. The program began in 1947 when the wife of a Marine Corps Reserve Major asked her husband to give some handmade dolls to an agency supporting children in need. When they could not identify an organization with that mission, they started one.
The program was so successful in its local debut that it spread nationally the following year. Today, there are 800 local Toys for Tots support groups in the US, collecting and donating millions of new, unwrapped toys during the holidays and throughout the year.
The Capital Region Toys for Tots campaign is the largest in the world, distributing 682,145 toys in 2023. Thomas Pest Services supports their mission, and we will be a collection site again this year.
Adopting a Young Man from Vanderheyden
This year, we’re proud to announce another special way we’re giving back. Thomas Pest Services is adopting a young man who resides at Vanderheyden, a wonderful organization that provides support and care for youth and families in need.
As one of our customers, Vanderheyden’s mission to provide stability and hope aligns closely with our values. We are thrilled to provide for this young man and donate items to ensure he has a joyful holiday season. Supporting him is a privilege and a reminder of the impact we can all make in someone’s life by extending generosity and kindness.
Another local cause that we care deeply about is the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Each year around Thanksgiving, the Thomas Pest Services leadership team and other volunteers cook breakfast for the families staying at the Capital Region Ronald McDonald House. The House is a restful, compassionate place for families to stay free of charge while their children are hospitalized nearby with serious medical issues.
The families staying there also receive the gift of home-cooked meals, and they have access to other resources and amenities to ease their burden while they focus their attention on their child’s health. RMHC has many opportunities for volunteering on a year-round basis.
Often, charitable interests are guided by personal lives and experiences. You may be drawn to support specific causes because of things in your family or others you care about. At Thomas Pest Services, we have a personal reason for supporting Cerebral Palsy Awareness. If you want to learn more about this group of neurological disorders, please visit our awareness page.
Regardless of how you give back to your community, we thank you for your generosity. We know that the joy and satisfaction of contributing however we can to causes close to our hearts helps us all and makes the world a better place.
