According to the National Pest Management Association, (NPMA), Bed Bugs in America Survey, one out of five Americans has had a bed bug infestation in their home or knows someone who has encountered bed bugs at home or in a hotel. With these statistics, it is important to remember bed bug preventative tips, so you don’t become a statistic this summer.

The summer sees increased bed bug issues especially during the months of July through September, when summer traveling and temperatures are at its peak. Bed Bug Central performed research revealing new details about bed bugs and their behavior.

  • Peak in bed bug activity during the summer months, specifically July-September. Bed Bug Season
  • June and October are “high-risk” months and can have significant bed bug activity depending on year.
  • The increase in activity may not be fully associated with travel, but warmer temperatures increasing reproduction and movement, which could definitely play a role.

The study concludes that bed bugs develop from an egg to adult in 66 days at 64oF, but this developmental time dramatically decreases to only 14 days at 82oF. When development and movement are increased with warmer temperatures the risk for bed bug infestations grows.
