Do I Still Need Pest Control In The Winter?

In some people’s mind, winter is a time when all nature goes into hibernation and the world is miraculously pest-free. All of the bugs have either gone to sleep or died off until spring when the mosquito swatting, bee buzzing, and butterfly catching can begin again. It isn’t true, of course, but that seems to be the theory. However, living in your home right now might be a multitude of pests who not only survive through a harsh winter, but thrive thanks to the cozy environment that you have unexpectedly given them.

Certain pests tend to be quieter in winter; that’s true. You might not see much evidence of fleas, ants, cockroaches, or spiders; but that doesn’t mean that they have gone anywhere. Your climate controlled home is paradise to these pests as well others. You can count on the fact that they are still feeding and multiplying all year long. Hidden in your walls or attic, these pests are hardly bothered by what is going on outside. Some of these pests, such as mice and cockroaches, can still get into your food stores and can still spread disease. Spiders can still lay eggs, just inside your house instead of out; and nesting colonies of pests such as termites are still at work slowly eating you out of house and home, quite literally.

If you are lucky enough to not have pests inside your home over the winter because you have been diligent through the rest of the year, you are still at risk. By skipping your winter pest control treatment your home might not be protected when spring arrives and invasive pests begin a fresh assault on your house. In a short period of time, you might be looking at an expensive extermination process instead of just your regular maintenance.

It is important to remain vigilant even through the winter months in order to keep your home safe from these invaders all year long.
