Lyme Disease is not the only reason to avoid ticks according to CBS 6 Albany. Doctors say one of those bites may also make you allergic to red meat.
Researchers have found the allergic reaction can come after a bite from the "lone star tick." But it doesn't set in until three to six hours after you eat red meat for the first time after getting bit. The tick is listed as one of the most common ticks in New York State.
New York State Department of Health said, "Lone star ticks are becoming more common in New York State. They can carry the germ that causes human monocytic ehrlichiosis and are another rash illness that has been seen in over 20 other states. Lone start ticks are most active from April through July."
