Surprising Places Bed Bugs Hide

The name bed bug seems to suggest that these bugs can only be found in beds, but the truth is, they can be found in many places. Some of those places may even shock you. Here is a quick list of strange places bed bugs hide, compiled from inspections done by pest control companies across this great country of ours.

Alarm clocks: Let's start with this one, because it is close to the bed. When bed bugs are done feeding, they sometimes retreat to nearby electronics to digest a blood meal. Some even make it their home.

Furniture: Upholstered furniture inside a bedroom is a common home for bed bugs, but these bugs can also make their way into the living room and other areas. Though this bug is inclined to feed at night, it doesn't have to. It can feed on a fully awake human without being detected.

Electrical outlets: Bed bugs use outlets to travel in and out of wall voids. This is a great way to go between rooms (or apartments). But sometimes it is also a great place to make a home.

Computers: Like alarm clocks, bed bugs can be found in other electronics, like computers and keyboards. This is especially true if the computer is dusty and unused.

Vehicles: Bed bugs do not travel on their own. This is a bug that likes to hitch a ride. So it is not uncommon to find them living in a vehicle owned by a family infested with them.

Public places: Bed bugs aren't just found in homes. These little blood eaters can be found in some of the most unlikely places, like airplanes, buses, trains, taxi cabs and movie theaters. And also a few you would expect, like motels, hotels, resorts, cruise ships and cabin retreats.

But the number-one place these bugs like to be is tucked away in your mattress. If you're wondering whether or not you have bed bugs, inspect the corners and seams of your mattresses for black sticky residue. Examine your sheets for tiny brown blood stains. And, check your body for mosquito-like welts that run in a line or cluster.
