Wildlife Invaders Of Albany

It’s that time of year: Autumn is here. Leaves are falling and cold nights are leading to an uptick in the movement of natural wildlife. Deer are out and about hoping to fatten up, rodents are burrowing and nesting to keep warm as the nights approach freezing levels, and insects are trying to find a good place to hunker down to ensure their species will continue on come April and May. You may have noticed that even already-common animals such as squirrels and chipmunks are getting braver and coming around our yards and green spaces more often. Soon, many of these animals will be in full-blown survival mode and nothing will be off limits.

Dwindling food supplies are forcing all of the animals that are common from the Adirondacks to the Catskills toward residential areas. Humans are pretty great at throwing out excess food and wild animals and pests are pretty great at sniffing it out. Raccoons, opossums, chipmunks, and mice are building their shelters in or near residences simply because of our garbage. Deer are having trouble finding food out in the wild, so they’re coming into our neighborhoods at night to feed on our autumn flowers, plants, and shrubs. Some insects and rodents can cause serious problems in our foundations and roofs because they’re looking for a warm spot to spend the freezing nights.

If you find that you’re under attack of any of these critters, it’s time you do something about it. Some over-the-counter applications or traps may work, but especially for wildlife infestations, there is significant risk to trying to remove these pests yourself. Many of these animals carry disease and may even attack if they’re cornered. Since your number one priority is to keep your family, pets, and home safe, it’s probably a good idea to call in a professional to ensure that things are dealt with using the safest and most reliable methods, applied by trained and experienced professional.
