Bed bugs are small, brownish insects measuring just under a quarter of an inch long. They have an oval, flat body that’s about as wide as it is long. Immature bed bugs are much smaller around 1 mm, and lighter in color. Their eggs are also tiny, about 1 mm in size, whitish, and difficult to see with the naked eye. After feeding on blood, bed bugs take on a reddish appearance, making them easier to spot.
Bed bugs are not transmitters of disease, but bed bug bites may result in red, itchy welts that often appear in rows of several bites. This pattern is commonly referred to as breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Interestingly enough, not everyone reacts to bed bug bites, and some have delayed reactions.
