Upstate New York Bee and Wasp Removal Experts

Bees, wasps, and hornets play an essential role in our ecosystem. They pollinate flowers, trees, and food crops and also help control local insect populations. But all bees and wasps have stinging potential, and non-pollinating wasps, such as hornets and yellow jackets, can typically be more aggressive and invasive. Thomas Pest Services serves Albany and the Capital District, the Adirondack, and Hudson Valley regions. Get rid of stinging insect problems without getting stung! Schedule your free inspection or simply give us a call to discuss your bee and wasp problem.

Here’s how Thomas Pest Services helps get rid of bees and wasps on your property

We offer protection from bees, wasps, and other stinging insects that threaten health, safety, and property. This includes:

  • Bee and wasp inspection - looking for possible locations where these pests may be taking up residence.
  • Nest removal - remember it’s dangerous to remove a bee or wasp nest on your own.
  • Full preventative application - applied to other prone nesting sites including overhangs porches and decks, window and door frames, and holes in the ground.

Threats that Bees, Wasps & Other Stinging Insects Pose

Allergic Reactions and Painful Stinging

According to
Pest World, stinging insects can send more than 500,000 people to the emergency room each year. This is because venom from a bee or wasp is potent enough to cause a severe allergic reaction in some people that requires immediate medical attention. Some bee species like honey bees have barbed stingers and will sting only once while carpenter bees and some species of wasps like hornets or yellow jackets have smooth stingers allowing them to sting you multiple times.

Structural Damage

Some stinging insects can also cause structural damage to your home and other buildings. For example, carpenter bees can damage a structure by drilling holes to create tunnels inside the wood. If yellow jackets get inside, they can build nests in your attic or wall voids. And the weight of a large honey bee colony can cause damage to your home including chimneys, walls, and roofs.

Limiting Outdoor Enjoyment

As Upstate New Yorkers, we welcome nice weather after long winters. This includes backyard and deck enjoyment - picnics, swimming, barbeques, playing games, and more. The potential threat of bees and wasps shouldn’t have to limit outdoor enjoyment! A professional pest control company can help.

Types of Stinging Insects in Upstate New York

Bees and wasps seem to have a bad reputation everywhere, including in Albany and the Capital District, the Adirondack, and the Hudson Valley regions. But despite being dangerous, bees and wasps are beneficial to the environment, as long as a nest is not in your home, near a door, or another area that is in close proximity to you. Stinging Insect Prevention Tips

These pests are usually most active in Upstate New York during the second half of summer and early fall. To keep stinging insects away from your family and property, consider the following:

  1. Carpenter bee prevention tips include treating or painting wood on decks, porches, and sheds.

  2. Cicada killer prevention tips include maintaining a healthy lawn. These pests prefer patchy, bare lawns to create burrows in the ground.

  3. Honey bee prevention tips include sealing all exterior cracks and crevices, limiting the number of flowering plants or trees near your home, cleaning out gutters and roof soffits, and keeping all sugary drinks and treats covered when eating outside.

  4. Hornet prevention tips include caulking gaps around your windows and doors, keeping tight-fitting lids on all trash cans, and ensuring window and door screens are intact.

  5. Yellow jacket prevention tips include filling holes in the ground, keeping sugary drinks covered, sealing food when eating outside, and sealing any openings to your home or other buildings.

For the past few years, we have been using Thomas Pest Services to monitor and mitigate pest activity in, and around, our house. We have had several excellent technicians and supervisors visiting our place on a bimonthly bases. On several occasions, in between the regular services when we had noticed pest activities, they also came promptly and took care of the problem. Yesterday, Frank (AKA Jon D) who was a new technician for our service, came. He demonstrated an even higher level of excellence in his work and demeanor than we had expected. He was very neat (had a small vacuum cleaner, which he used constantly), keenly observant and attentive. He did a wonderful job throughout the entire house and outside — and all with a smile and respect. We greatly appreciate his work. Kudos to Thomas Pest Services for employing and nurturing such wonderful talents.

I had a fantastic experience with Thomas Pest Control! Dylan, the service technician, was kind, professional, and truly an excellent listener. He took the time to understand my concerns and then got right to work. He sprayed an organic pest repellent around the entire exterior of my home, treated a ground wasp nest (safely spraying it), and removed several visible wasp nests. I really appreciated his attention to detail and how thorough he was. On top of that, using organic products was a huge bonus for me as a pet owner. I couldn’t be happier with the service. If you want someone who does the job right and treats your home with care, I highly recommend Thomas Pest Control—and especially Dylan!

JR was fantastic! He explained thoroughly what he was going to do and how each chemical worked to secure rear porch from getting destroyed by the carpenter bees. He also provided a timeline of how long the chemicals residual effects would last and what he would recommend in order to prevent them from coming back. I feel confident that my carpenter bee issue has been resolved and I can finally enjoy my property without getting dive bombed by bees constantly. He was professional and courteous while performing his work. Thank you again JR. I look forward to doing more business with Thomas Pest Services based on my experience with JR.
