OPOSSUMS

What Do Opossums Look Like?
Approximately the same size as a house cat, the opossum is generally whitish or grayish in coloring and is equipped with a rat-like tail. Another telltale feature of possums is their tracks; tracks from both the front and hind feet look like little hands.
Having Trouble With Opossums?
Are opossums dangerous?
For people, opossums are more of a nuisance pest, getting into cans, raiding bird feeders, and stealing pet food left outside. However, if threatened, they may bite in addition to baring their teeth, growling, screeching, emitting a foul odor, it may also play dead. They are a serious threat to poultry, game birds, and nests.
Why do I have an opossum problem?
Like other wild animals, possums may be attracted to compost piles, garbage cans, and pet food left outside. If your home is near a swamp or stream, or if your property provides sources of food, you could very well run into an opossum. Also, because they are great climbers, you could find them in the attic.
