What do Acrobat Ants look like?
At first glance, acrobats ants may look like other ants common to our region, but if you look closely these light brown to black ants actually have a heart-shaped abdomen. Their ability to raise their abdomen over their thorax (in layman’s terms the middle section of the ant) and head make them aptly named.

Are acrobat ants dangerous?
Although acrobat ants may bite if threatened or emit an unpleasant odor if disturbed, they are not considered dangerous to people. They may, however, cause trouble for property owners as they have been known to cause short circuits in electrical equipment and damage other property.
Why do I have an acrobat ant problem?
Acrobat ants are attracted to honeydew. Not honeydew melons but a substance that is secreted by aphids. They will also eat live and dead bugs and inside will seek out materials that taste sweet like the honeydew. Moisture is another draw to these nuisance ants and they will find a way inside homes by crossing tree limbs and even utility lines. Any gap, hole or opening large enough to allow entry are vulnerable areas.
