What do Pavement Ants look like?
Approximately 1/8” in length, pavement ants vary in color from dark brown to black. Winged pavement ants are the reproductive members of the colony, are larger than worker ants and of course have wings that allow them to swarm.
Having trouble with pavement Ants?
Are pavement ants dangerous?
Pavement ants are capable of biting and have a stinger in the last abdominal segment but rarely will they bite or sting. Pavement ants fall into the category of nuisance ants because they establish nests in in cracks in pavement and can infest buildings.
Why do I have a pavement ant problem?
Pavement ants are not picky eaters. In fact, they feed on sweets, fruits, grease and dead insects as well as a variety of other items. Crumbs on the floor, food on counters, grease buildup and other pests inside the dwelling may attract these pests to your home but ants may also come out of cracks in concrete slabs and foundations or in homes with dirt basements or crawlspaces.
How do you get rid of pavement ants?
Getting rid of pavement ants is more complicated than killing the foraging ants you see in and around your home. You must find and eliminate the entire ant colony in order to get rid of pavement ants and keep them away from your home. At Thomas Pest Services, we offer comprehensive ant control in Albany, Saratoga and throughout the Capital District and Adirondack regions. If you’ve found ants in the kitchen or elsewhere in your home or on the surrounding property, contact us today to find out how we can help.
